Harrisonburg High School--Mrs. Valerie P. Kibler - English Department

More info:

Valerie Kibler has been teaching for 29 years, 19 at Harrisonburg High School.  She teaches AP English Language and Composition with an Intensive Journalistic Writing focus for 11th graders, freshman journalism, and advanced journalism (Newsstreak production). She also serves Virginia as the State Director for the Journalism Education Association and treasurer of VAJTA, the Virginia Association of Journalism Teachers and Advisers and is a member of the National Scholastic Press Association Board of Directors.

Harrisonburg High School produces the nationally award winning Newsstreak newspaper.  Students involved usually take freshman journalism prior to joining the production staff in grades 10-12.  Each student has his or her own google docs account where they produce writing and share with editors and the instructor.  There is also a class google docs account which contains all pertinent handouts such as individualized grade contracts for each position on staff.  Students can share these usernames and passwords with their parents for easy access.  We also use Google Classroom which is updated regularly. Again, students can share usernames and passwords so that parents can keep up with calendars, assignments and deadlines. Parents interested in chaperoning trips to national conventions or becoming active in the Parents of Publication Students (POPS) organization should contact Mrs. Kibler at vkibler@harrisonburg.k12.va.us
