CREATIVE EXPLORATION, BSA ELECTIVE

 Course Description:

  • Basic life skills taught & exploration of  related careers 
  • Three components:

                1. Photography; hands-on basic camera skills, technology skills editing with

                Adobe Photoshop, organizational skills preparing portfolio, & career

                exploration

                2.  Foods & nutrition; hands-on skills cooking made easy & healthy versus fast

                food & career exploration

                3. Clothing design, repair & maintenance; hands-on skills & career exploration

  

Merchandising Life Skills, With Finance & Cooking Components  

1  elective credit

Course Description:

  • Hands- on classroom setting that creates a unique “mini society” that engage the students in financial and merchandising decisions that directly affect the whole society
  • Course activities demonstrate Virginia’s Workplace readiness skills;
  • Basic finances, hands-on lessons include but not limited to;
    • On-line banking using lab top computers
    • Using credit cards responsibly
    • Managing a checking account
    • Laws protecting the consumer
  • Basic economics, & E-Commerce
  • Consumer math applications
  • Cooking made easy, cheap & healthy versus consumption of fast food

 

Career Development     1 elective credit

Course Description;

  • Work place readiness skills including topics such as but not limited to;

           Work ethic, resumes, job applications, job interviews, getting along with the boss,

               assistance in obtaining and keeping a job, transferable job skills 

  • Human communication dealing with the public
  • Character building qualities such as but not limited to;

                                           Integrity

                                           Trustworthy

                                           Punctuality

                                           Respectful

 

Job Exploration    2 elective credits

Must be taken while enrolled in Career Development course

 

While enrolled in Career Development course must have a job and work 80 hours or more in 9 consecutive week period with the same job. A weekly log of their work schedule and a journal of work experiences are required. Career class must be completed with a passing grade.

ESL Elective Course

Career Development, 1 Elective Credit

Course provides oral language experience for the purpose of communication in the English language. A hands-on classroom experience allows the development of new vocabulary pertaining to each component. Teacher prepared curriculum is presented in a reader-friendly & oral style that is a level all students can learn.

 

Components include, but not limited to:

Workplace readiness skills:

  • work ethic
  • Job applications
  • job interviews
  • human communication on the job
  • explore careers
