Homework

Homework that is given will be designed to reinforce concepts taught in class and to provide more time for independent reading. Homework time should not be a chore, nor should it be marked with frustration. If you find that your child is unable to do their homework independently, please let me know so that I can make appropriate adjustments.

If you see that your child is reading a historical fiction novel or a nonfiction book about a time period in history that is of interest to you, don't hesitate to ask for a second copy of that book. If I have another copy, I would be happy to lend it to you. Few things are more powerful for our students than seeing a parent reading a book they are reading. The rich discussions that come from these paired or shared readings can be important bridges between parent and child, as well as home and school.

Grading

The Harrisonburg City School's grading scale will be used to evaluate your child in the areas of: Classwork 60%, Tests and Quizzes 30%, Homework 10%
