Wow! It's hard to believe that it is time to begin another school year! I hope your summer days were filled with fun times spent with family and friends. I love the "fresh start" of a new school year and reconnecting with students and staff, as well as meeting those new to SSES and to our program. Our first days and weeks will be focused on learning classroom expectations, settling into new schedules and routines, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones, setting new goals, and trying out new strategies. We will be busy!
Our program supports students in second through fourth grade with a focus on developing and generalizing strategies for becoming a competent learner, achieving academic goals, and increasing skills in the areas of self-advocacy, communication, and socialization.
Effective communication and collaboration are essential not only within our school but between home and school and I believe success is more readily achieved with teamwork, a shared vision, mutual respect, and time for celebrating achievement.
So begins our journey of 2015-2016 and the opportunity for our students to gain new knowledge and skills, increase independence, and develop positive relationships with others. It is sure to be a great year!
