6th Grade Creative Writing
This writing course will allow students to spend more time exploring writing. As in our 5th grade exploratory class, we will begin every day with a quick write and an opportunity to share. This process helps to build a community of writers. We will continue working through the writing process with in-class assignments. We will focus on narratives, descriptions and explanations. Creative, in-class projects will be the springboard for many of the writing assignments that will incorporate voice, tone, and elaboration of ideas. We will work towards this goal during individual writing time, collaborative writing opportunities with peers, centers and observation of techniques modeled.
5th Grade Creative Writing
This exploratory writing course will expose students to creative writing. In order to build a community of writers, we will begin every day with a quick write and an opportunity to share. Through in-class assignments, we will touch on the writing process, explore who writes, learn to appreciate others’ choice of words, brainstorm topic ideas and expand on our current ideas. We will work towards this goal during individual writing time, collaborative writing opportunities with a peer and observation of techniques modeled.
