I was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. My mother is a nurse and my father has had many jobs, including sword-swallower, fire-eater, candy salesman, copier repairman, and road construction worker. He is currently a computer teacher (but I was a teacher first). I have a younger brother named Shawn who is a good musician.
My family moved around a lot (all in Virginia), and by the time I was in 8th grade I had already attended 8 different schools. I went to Spotswood High School and took part in many things there: the Student Council, band, academic teams, Young Life, the ecology club, photojournalism, and many other cool clubs and groups. I went to James Madison University and studied modern foreign languages (with a concentration in French), secondary education, and English as a Second Language (ESL) education. I am certified to teach French and ESL to students in grades K-12.
I graduated from JMU in 2000 and immediately started a job as an ESL teacher at Thomas Harrison. Within that field, I have taught math, reading, language arts, and social studies. I also taught several elective courses. Beginning in the 2005-2006 school year, I started teaching computers and French.
The most recent big change in my life has been marriage! I was married on June 18, 2005. My wife and I live in Harrisonburg.
I enjoy surfing the net, learning languages (one of my favorites is Esperanto), reading, watching movies, and traveling. I have had lots of great opportunities to travel, and have spent time in France, Britain, Ireland, Italy, Albania, Kosovo, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, and on our honeymoon cruise we went to Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico.
