About Me!

My name is Holly Haney. This is my 23rd year of teaching. I have taught preschool, first, second and third grade, as well as sixth grade math, a gifted program k-12 and sixth grade science and histroy. I really love working with children.

I have been married to the same man, Bob Kolvoord, for 31 years! We have three grown up children: Andrew, Zachary, and Abigail.   We love to travel.   The picture was taken in Montenegro. It shows me with my husband, Bob from last  summer.

This past summer Bob and I took a vacation and went to Prince Edward Island, home of Lucy Maud Montgomery; author of the Anne of Green Gables series as well as other books. I read the Anne series as an adult and really enjoyed them. I have wanted to visit the island where the books are set and Lucy Maud grew up since then. It is a setting of beautiful rolling hills and water! We also went to Quebec! It was exciting to hear so many people speak french. Quebec is also a lovely city. We walked the city wall which protected the city when it was a new city.

I am a vegetarian. This coming January will be my nineth year of eating absolutely no meat. Students always seem to find this fact unbelievable. I gave up beef while in college in 1974, and have never put beef back into my diet. I eat many fruits and vegetables. I think eating the way I do is healthy and delicious. I have recently been changing my eating a little as I find I am glutten intolerant, which means my stomach does not do well with wheat products like bread. I eat bread as long as it is made from a flour made from a product other than wheat, like rice.

In my  free time along with travel I like to garden, sing, care for pets, cook, read, kayak, and hike. I continue to learn karate and will be taking lessons this year from my son Zachary Kolvoord who is opening his new studio in Elkton called American Freestyle! I earned my Black Belt in January of 2014. Zachary,  my black belt  instructor holds his third degree black belt. I am proud of him for this, and much much more. The students call him Mr. K. He also subs at THMS sometimes!
