Today's homework

 

I used to ask  all classes to watch for the moon phase and report the next day in class what it looked like. "What phase was the moon in last night?", was my homework question every day. We are trying to see that the moon phases are in a pattern, so when we got to that, the names and shape would be common knowledge. Some students did really well with this, others are still struggling. This will be a topic they need to fully understand on the 8th grade SOL. Please continue to talk too your child about the moon phases and other aspects of nature that you see around you.

We will generally not have homework in science/history. We will attempt to complete everything in class. If your child is not working fast enough to complete work in class, then  I will ask him/her to take it home and finish it. I will ask the students to read their science journals/history folders to an adult at home about every two to three weeks to help them cement concepts by reading/seeing and hearing it, as they read to you. Please ask questions of your child as he/she reads so that they can explain things to you. The more they discuss the concepts the easier it is for them to learn the concept.
