Differentiation in Harrisonburg City Public Schools

In 2006 Harrisonburg City Public Schools adopted the Consultation and Collaboration Model for use in the elementary schools in the area of language arts and math. Two years later the model was expanded to include language arts in the middle schools. The purpose of this program is to help teachers in meet the needs of our advanced learners.

Identified students are placed in cluster groups in specified regular education classrooms. The teachers of these classrooms work collaboratively with the differentiation specialist to serve the gifted/advanced learners within the classroom. Other students who demonstrate existing mastery of current educational objectives are included in differentiated educational opportunities as well.


The Enrichment Specialists have designed a logo to indicate resources or activities that a we developed in collaboration with the classroom teacher.
