School Libraries are Essential!

In a warm, stimulating, and safe environment, school libraries provide equal access to the resources and tools necessary for learning. School librarians collaborate with teachers and families to provide materials, strategies, and practice in using the essential skills needed in the 21st century.
We are committed to the mission stated by the American Association of School Libraries:
- Reading is a window to the world.
- Inquiry provides a framework for learning.
- Ethical behavior in the use of information must be taught.
- Technology skills are crucial for future employment needs.
- Equitable access is a key component for education.
In the library our students will learn to locate and use materials and equipment. They will evaluate and select media for specific information needs. They will comprehend various types of media. And most importantly, they will appreciate books and other media as sources of information and recreation.
Current Lessons
All classes will end the year with folk and fairy tales from around the world. These stories have been handed down from generation to generation in order to teach and to entertain. It is nice to see that, even today, these stories still capture our childrens' interest and imagination.
As with all material found on the Internet, teachers and parents should be very careful
in allowing students to explore these sites unless direct supervision is provided.
Keister Elementary is not responsible for the content of various links beyond the initial
levels of each site.
